Everyone has their own style of public speaking and so the sermons below are just suggestions. Even so, there are a
number of things I would like to share about how I approach the object lessons. Whenever I feel like I get stuck, I try to remember my basic rules.
Capture the attention of the children.
Get the children involved.
Focus on the needs of the children.
Make sure you use a bible verse.
Pray, Pray, Pray!
A good object makes all the difference in the world.
You want to capture the kid's attention right away.
It is very easy for them to drift so the bigger and
more interesting the object the better. Then I try to
ask questions and have the kids think about the sermon.
This helps them remember, and it holds their attention.
Depending on the answers you get, you might be able to
alter your sermon to make it more appealing. I can not
tell you the times the children answered a question that I never imagined,
and it changed the entire structure of the sermon. I suggest that you repeat
the answers out loud that the children give you
while you are asking the questions. Be prepared
if the children don't have an answer for you.
Just move along on the sermon, and explain the answer
you were looking for. The bible verse will also help you
in a big way. If you have an object and a verse, both will
help you figure out the structure of the sermon.
Finally and most importantly, pray like crazy.
Try to be more aware of the things around you and how
they can be used in an object lesson. When you go shopping
our out with friends, stay alert.
Please do not get discourage if you feel that a sermon did not go well. I can not tell you the number of times that I felt it did not go well, and the Lord used it anyway. The main point is that you give a consistent effort and that you model the character of Christ.
We are serving a great Lord, and he sees our heart.
God Bless and have fun!
P.S. Email me your sermons! All sermons will be reviewed before they are posted. There is a requirement that you first try out the sermons before they can be considered.
